When does my yellow fever certificate become valid?
Ten days after vaccination for a first course. Under the International Health Regulations the ICVP takes effect on day 10 and is then valid for life. If a further dose is given while an existing certificate is still valid, the replacement certificate is valid from the day of vaccination.
How long is the yellow fever certificate valid for?
For the lifetime of the person vaccinated. Since the International Health Regulations were amended, the old 10-year expiry no longer applies and certificates issued before the change remain valid. An older certificate showing a 10-year expiry does not usually need replacing.
Can I get an ICVP without having the vaccine here?
No. The certificate can only be completed by the registered centre that gives the dose, and it must carry that centre's official stamp and the vaccinator's signature. If you were vaccinated elsewhere and have lost the document, contact the centre that vaccinated you.
What do I do if I have lost my yellow fever certificate?
Contact the centre that vaccinated you, because it holds the record and can reissue from it. If we vaccinated you, bring identification to the clinic on Harrow High Street and we will check our records. Without evidence of the original dose, revaccination and a new certificate may be needed.
What if I cannot have the yellow fever vaccine for medical reasons?
An exemption may be signed and stamped in the exemption section of the certificate by the vaccinating centre after a clinical assessment. Acceptance is at the discretion of the destination country's border authorities, so we also review your route and any transit stops that would trigger the requirement.
Does my child need their own yellow fever certificate?
Yes. Every vaccinated traveller, including children from 9 months of age, receives an ICVP in their own name. Infants under 9 months are not routinely vaccinated, so families travelling to risk areas should raise the itinerary with us early so the trip can be planned around it.
Do I need a certificate for a stopover as well as my destination?
Possibly. Some countries require an ICVP from anyone who has passed through a yellow fever risk country, including short airport transits. We check every leg of your route, including connecting flights, against current entry requirements before the appointment.
