Bite avoidance is the mainstay. Dengue is spread by Aedes mosquitoes that bite mainly during the day, so repellent, covering up and using nets or air conditioning matter more than they do for night-biting species. The pharmacist covers this at the pre-travel consultation.
How long does an appointment take for a family of four?
Allow around an hour. Each traveller gets their own 20 to 30 minute risk assessment and vaccines, and families are booked into consecutive slots so it is one trip rather than four. Certificates are printed before you leave.
What does a gap year traveller need compared with a two week holiday?
More cover, usually. Longer trips and backpacking raise the case for hepatitis B, rabies and Japanese encephalitis on top of the hepatitis A, typhoid and Td/IPV base, and multi-dose courses need planning weeks ahead. Malaria prevention advice is tailored to the countries and seasons involved.
