What if I have already had hepatitis A, do I need it again?
Usually not for many years. A first dose gives protection for around a year and a booster given 6 to 12 months later extends it for roughly 25 years. Bring any record you have and the pharmacist will check whether you are already covered rather than repeating a dose.
Can I get travel vaccines without registering as a patient?
Yes. A private travel clinic takes self-referrals, so you do not need to be registered with the clinic or hold a GP referral letter. Book online or call 020 8869 1200, and bring photo identification and any previous vaccination records you have to hand.
Do I need to bring my vaccination records to the appointment?
Bring them if you have them. Old certificates, a GP printout or a photo of a yellow booklet all help the pharmacist avoid repeating doses and work out whether a booster is due. If you have nothing, the consultation still goes ahead using your recollection and current guidance.
Can I get a tetanus, diphtheria and polio booster before travelling?
Yes. Combined tetanus, diphtheria and polio cover is reviewed at every pre-travel consultation and a booster is offered if you are due one, generally every 10 years for travel to areas where these remain a risk. It can be given at the same visit as other travel vaccines.
