Which vaccines do I need for a trip to India from South Harrow?

How long does the typhoid vaccine last?
About three years for the injected vaccine, after which a further dose is advised if you are still travelling to risk areas. Bring any record you have so the pharmacist can check whether you are still covered instead of repeating a dose unnecessarily.
Can children travelling to India be vaccinated here?
Yes. Most travel vaccines are licensed from 1 year of age and yellow fever from 9 months, and children born in the UK who are visiting relatives abroad need the same destination cover as any other traveller. Each child is assessed and given their own schedule.

Is hepatitis A really a food and water risk?
Yes. Hepatitis A is spread through contaminated food and water, which is why it is recommended for most of South Asia. Hepatitis B is different, it is bloodborne and passed through blood and bodily fluids, so it is advised for other reasons such as medical or dental treatment abroad.
Can I be seen the same day if my flight is soon?

Ideally 4 to 6 weeks before travel, especially for vaccines that need multiple doses like Rabies or Japanese Encephalitis. For Hajj jabs and most single-dose vaccines, same-week appointments are fine. Even at short notice most travel vaccines still help.
It depends on where you are going, how long, your activities, age and medical history. We do not sell a generic package, every recommendation is based on your itinerary against current NaTHNaC guidance. The pre-travel consultation is included.
Some are. Combined Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio, Hepatitis A and Typhoid are NHS-funded for certain destinations through GP practices.
